All City of Iola Offices will be closed on Monday, February 16th in observance of Presidents' Day! This includes the Recreation Office and Building.
Spring Soccer League Play recreational outdoor soccer on age division teams. Register online or at the Recreation Office now through February 1 for Early Bird fees; February 2-17 late fees apply. Boys and girls 4 years of age on or by April 1st through 8th grade may participate. Practice days and times will be scheduled by the team coaches. 4 years old-5th grade divisions will play games on Tuesday and/or Thursday evenings at the Davis Athletic Fields. 6th-8th grade division will play games on Saturday mornings in Chanute.
Co-ed Volleyball League Form a team of up to 6-10 players to play volleyball in a league on Sunday afternoons beginning on March 8. Register a team online or at the Recreation Office now through February 27. All players must be 18 years of age and older. There needs to be an equal number of women and men or more women on the court at all times.
Open Walking Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., at the Recreation Building. Enjoy climate-controlled walking at your own pace. Closed holidays and special events. Walking time may vary each day depending on the scheduled activities we have going on. No walking in the gym during the noon yoga class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. When the gym is occupied, walkers are welcome to walk in the Little Theater.
Senior-cise Class Low-impact aerobics class. Monday-Friday mornings, 9:00-10:00 a.m., at the Recreation Building Little Theater, excluding holidays and special events. Ages 40 and older may participate. This free class is offered year around. Workouts may include yoga, cardio, balance and strength training, or a full body workout. Classes are for all fitness levels and can be modified to each individual’s ability.
Exercise Equipment Monday-Friday, 8:00-9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., at the Recreation Building Little Theater, excluding holidays and special events. We have the Curves Total Body Workout Equipment, a treadmill, elliptical machine, row machine, light weights and a few other pieces of equipment available for use for free. Individuals 18 years of age and older may use the equipment.
Fitness Classes Classes are year around with ongoing sessions, may join anytime. Ages 18 and older may participate. Recreation Building Gym, 500 Park Ave., Riverside Park. Yoga with Sarah Noah: Low-impact group fitness class, using a combination of traditional yoga poses, mobility exercises, core training and breath work. Suggested gear: yoga mat, 2 yoga blocks, yoga strap, water bottle and towel. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Boot Camp: Result-driven effective workouts. Consist of a combination of weights, cardio and resistance loops. Exercises may be changed up at any time or adjusted throughout a session. Each class brings something fun and exciting and is great for all fitness levels. Suggested gear: light weights (5 lbs. or less), water bottle and towel. Monday-Thursday, 5:30-6:05 a.m.
