The City of Iola has two electrical departments that work together to provide electricity to residents and businesses.
The Electric Production Department can produce power for Iola when electricity is in high demand or in emergency situations. This allows the city to purchase electricity from Westar Energy Group at a lower rate, causing Iola's electric utility rate to be cheaper to the customer as well.
The Electric Distribution Department handles the residents' and businesses' needs for electricity and maintains the transmission lines.
Electric Distribution
Maintains over 100 miles of overhead electric transmission lines, 15,000 feet of underground lines and over 3,700 electric meters, traffic signals, street lights, community buildings, and city ball diamonds.
Installing Iola's Christmas lights and hanging event banners as well as working with Farm City Days and the Allen County Fair on their power requirements are a few of the community involvement activities they assist with.
